THE National BMX 2010 summer series went to East Anglia last weekend as the Braintree BMX Club hosted rounds five and six of the series.

The Royston members had some great results in both rounds which attracted over 500 riders from across the UK.

The racing was close, fast and very competitive on the compact 330m-long track and Royston’s quartet of young riders in the 9-year class battled hard to gain points for their series rankings.

James King, having just missed out on a semi-final place on Saturday, went on to take fourth in Sunday’s B final while Ted Dalleywater took seventh in the B final on Saturday but missed the qualification mark on Sunday.

In the 10-year class, Royston had a trio of riders with Ethan Vernon leading the way on Saturday to a well deserved win which he followed with a second-placed finish on Sunday while Daniel Blanche also made the A final on both days with eighth and fifth placed finishes.

Teammate Myles Fisher took seventh in Saturday’s B final and third in the class B final on Sunday.

In the 11-year class, Aaron Dalleywater had a disastrous day on Saturday but still managed to take eighth place in the B final and bounced back to full form on Sunday when he raced home to second in the main A final.

In the 14-year class, James Handleigh just missed out in the semi final on both days but still went home with two sixth place B final points while Andrew Brooker in the 16-year class continued to hone his race skills with third and fifth placed finishes in the class B finals.

Richard Townsend finished sixth in Saturday’s A final and second in Sunday’s B final while in the cruiser classes Carl Birt took home a fifth and sixth place in the over-45 year class.

The highlight of the Royston club’s weekend came in the Veteran (40+) class when Darren Foreman took fourth and third the class B final but Lee Alexander showed the pack how to ride the track with two wins in the main final to extend his lead at the top of the class rankings.
