Club hope to raise £20,000

ROYSTON RUGBY CLUB will hold an Auction of Promises on March 5 to help raise the final £20,000 needed to build new changing rooms and training facilities.

So far, £100,000 has been raised through various grants and fundraising events for the much-needed facilities and it is hoped this auction will allow the final total to met.

The event will take place in the Ballroom at the Old Bull Inn on Royston High Street at 8pm where there are 26 lots to be sold. There are no reserve prices and the highest bid for each lot will win.

Afterwards, there will be a dedicated bar and DJ to celebrate the night’s success into the early hours. Everyone is more than welcome to the auction, whether associated with the club or not.

The club is run on an entirely voluntary basis and supports well over 100 youth players from ages five to 14 with over 50 regular senior and veteran players. But due to law changes, the juniors now need separate changing facilities, which the not-for-profit-club has to fund itself.

The idea behind the night came after some very generous local businesses and individuals allowed special items to be auctioned by the club. All profits from the Auction will go towards the cause and not a cent kept by anyone else.

Among the current list of lots is a matchday box at White Hart Lane for a Premier League match, a week’s holiday in a holiday home in north France, a year-long membership for two people at Royston Heath Gym, and 23 other top, top lots on offer.
