A DEPLETED Royston team returned from Welwyn Garden City empty handed on Saturday.

The match was quite even throughout, but it was Welwyn that took advantage of their chances, scoring three, one from a short corner and two from open play.

The travelling side worked the ball well at times, but lacked the spark that they have shown in recent weeks.

On balance, the hosts probably deserved the victory, but such a one sided score line flattered them.

With this result ending any chance for Royston's promotion, the players that did turn out were left wondering what could have been.
