Royston Ladies II 2

THROUGH alternate sunshine and showers, Royston played a blinder of a game to beat South Herts in their annual friendly fixture.

Having had their confidence knocked in the heavy defeat of last week, Royston started out with a tight-knit formation but soon found that the home side were slow to mark, leaving the visiting midfield with plenty of time on the ball and plenty of space to run rings around the South Herts defence.

Royston's lead came midway through the first half when some textbook hockey from Jules Fuller and Catherine Johnson gave Wendy Finlay the chance to drive the ball into the D and past the keeper.

Royston held the lead into the second half of the game and continued to challenge the home side's defence.

Player of the match Kirsty Penfold gave a solid performance on the left wing and gave the Royston forwards an extra dimension in the attacking line.

It was Penfold's slip to Finlay that found Louise Arnold, who slammed Royston's second home from the top of the D.

Royston had found their form and played excellently, only succumbing to a late goal to the visitors five minutes before the end, which the home side were unable to follow up.

Royston will be relieved to again find their form and must carry this forward when the league games recommence in two weeks' time.
