ROYSTON cruised to victory over lowly Ickenham at The Heath on Saturday.

The hosts started the game brightly and went ahead through a converted try from Michael Schurch after the Crows had won their own line-out deep in the visitors’ 22.

Royston’s second try was all forward play, winning another line-out and putting in a strong drive from Easy and Greaves before captain Damien Fouracres broke off the back of the rampaging maul to crash over the line, the conversion attempt was unsuccessful.

Schurch then added more points with a penalty kick from in front of the posts and they struck again before half time with a superb solo effort from Tristan Tegg who picked the ball up just outside the Ickenham’s 22 and showed good speed and strength to fend off two centres and go under the posts, the conversion was successful to leave the score 22-0 at halftime.

Royston added yet more misery to the demoralised Ickenham after the break when a charged down kick was picked up by Schurch who accelerated away from his winger to go round the full-back and score a converted try.

Ickenham did show some resistance in the last quarter but were not rewarded for their efforts, mainly due to the excellent defence of Royston.

Royston then consolidated their dominance when some good forward play from Alex Hiom led to the ball being put through the hands of Taff, Fouracres, Deards, Dummett and Phillips before the new-look, streamlined, Charlie Sparkes glided over the line for his first try of the season, with the conversion successful it meant the match finished 36-0 with Royston receiving a bonus point.
