Hertford 3 Royston 1
ROYSTON'S inability to take their chances cost them dearly at Hertford, on Saturday.
The first half was evenly fought, Hertford took the lead after 10 minutes, and although holding a fair amount of possession failed to create any other clear cut chances.
Out-numbered in midfield Royston struggled to keep the ball, but looked dangerous on the occasions that they did, creating some excellent scoring opportunities that should have been converted.
After a change in formation the away side took control of the game.
Managing to retain the vast majority of the second half possession Royston began to create scoring chances from every wave of attack.
Short corners came thick and fast, but were poorly taken and open play opportunities were squandered at an alarming rate.
The Hertford keeper was in fine form and easily their strongest player, but some clinical finishing from Royston would have secured a comfortable victory.
The hosts managed to add two goals to their tally after some lax defending but did look strong going forward on the few occasions they got the ball out of their own half.
The Royston players kept pressing aided by man of the match Graham Mack, overwhelming his opposite number at the right of midfield.
Deep into the second half Royston were denied a clear-cut penalty stroke by the umpire, and finally managed to score when Nick Hurd found some space and slotted the ball in.
Royston put in a decent performance, but their midfield and forwards prowess in front of goal seriously let them down.
