ROYSTON faced Christchurch in the first match of the season knowing nothing less than a win would be good enough.
Fired up by coach Tracy Stimson, Royston were raring to go from the off and fired out of the blocks in the first five minutes by scoring quick goals through the shooting combination of Stimson and Gayle Pledger.
At the end of the first quarter the score was 13-5 to Royston.
Their visitors were forced to make changes in a bid to get back into the game but Royston defenders Jo Moxam and Emma Winser quickly adapted their style of play to match their opponents and Royston led at half time 23-15.
Royston made a change of their own in the third quarter with new player Anna Maudrall coming on in goal attack.
The centre court pairing of Emily St John and Karen Hume combined well with Maudrall, and some quick thinking and clever play by them saw the come down the court and into the hands of the waiting shooters.
During the last quarter good work by Jackie Huttlestone and player of the match St John forced Christchurch to make errors, and although Royston made a few of their own they did enough to ensure Royston a winning start to the year.
Royston: Winser, Moxam, Huttlestone, St John, Hume, Maudrall, Stimson, Pledger.
