ROYSTON romped to victory when they faced Hitchin in the North Herts Interclub League, comprising of two rinks of four men.

The Royston four of Alan Potter, Mike Smith, Matt Coppen, and skip Stewart Brown, romped home with a massive 30 shot difference, to win 42-12.

On rink two Don Sheriff, Ken Collinge, Derek Goodwin, and skip Peter Adams, after making a late spurt, managed a draw, 21-21, leaving Royston 63-33 winners.

Royston's Matt Coppen was in action on Wednesday when he played in the quarter-finals of the Letchworth & District Champions of Champions competition.

His opponent was David Wright from the Datchworth BC, and Wright had a comfortable 21-10 win.

Royston were involved in two matches in the Meldreth & District League during the week.

They first took on Foxton on Tuesday in an away game. This was a closely fought contest with Royston just managing a win 64-60 to give themselves five of the seven points.

Royston's next MDL game was against Melbourn on Thursday evening. This game was even closer than the previous one against Foxton.

At the last end of the game, the two sides had equal scores, but Royston had one bowl left.

A lot of pressure now fell onto the shoulders of skip Bob Porter. With a calmness, which only manifests in quality bowlers, he produced a delivery of controlled weight and pinpoint accuracy, to give Royston that vital winning shot. The final margin was 70-69, with Royston taking 5.5 points.

Friday saw Royston welcome the touring side of Norfolk Police to a friendly game of six rinks of men.

The weather was sunny, and coupled with a good afternoon of bowling; the whole event was enjoyed by all who participated.

The result was a win for Royston by 29 shots. Royston 127. Norfolk Police 98.
