FOOTBALL - it's a game of two halves. And that was certainly the case on Tuesday night as Royston controlled the first and Kentish Town dominated the second.

And it was the second period of play that proved the most telling, with the visitors scoring three goals in 26 minutes. But it could have been very different for the Crows with Dave McMurrough glancing home Chris Geldart's corner after just 54 seconds.

However, as chances went a begging, it was clear Kentish Town would eventually find their feet, with the best player on the pitch David Dawson growing in confidence.

And it took only 25 seconds of the second half to see why, when Dawson's brilliant through ball exploited the pace of Lee Scott, who had netted his side's equaliser just before the break, but somehow fired wide.

Then the flurry of goals, as Kelfala Fofana powered home the goal of the game after 47 minutes with a dipping 20-yard strike. Moments later Roberto Quattromini bamboozled Richard Lowden down the left and when his cross was turned in by Rogers, the visitors had taken a confident lead.

Scott took his next chance by finding the bottom corner, this time with a calmly taken penalty in 73rd minute after he was upended by Rogers.

But just when the play looked to be running away from them, Graham Tibbals' header restored some Royston pride.

And McMurrough made no mistake five minutes from time, with a cool finish that followed a goalmouth scramble.

In the end it was little too late, but the Crows' performance certainly alerted the attentions of Ipswich Wanderers chairman Ed Nicholls, whose team travel to Garden Walk for the second round of the FA Vase on Saturday.

He said: "I thought Royston were very unlucky not have taken more from the game, especially after the first half. I was very impressed and I can see that Saturday's game is going to be a tough match. We've definitely got a fight on our hands and it should be a great cup game."

- Caretaker managers Danny Tyler and Terry Gorre steered Royston to victory on Saturday with a comfortable 3-1 win at Brache Sparta. Brett Purkiss, Adam Stokes and an own goal saw the Crows home for their second league win of the season.
