ROYSTON Bowls Club have qualified for the North Area play-off of the NHLL competition following a comfortable victory over St Ippolyts.
Peter Adams's team coasted to an impressive 30-12 triumph, while Mick O'Flanagan led his team to a 26-12 win as Royston completed a deserved double to progress through to the play off.
On the same day Royston Vets suffered a narrow defeat, as they slipped up against Shephalbury in a 5T mixed match. Despite winning on three winks, Royston slipped to two heavy defeats on the other two rinks and as a result went down 83-79.
Royston Ladies visited Melbourn in what was another close affair, however Royston gained their composure to pull away to a 67-39 win.
In the MDL League Royston played host to Foxton for a 4T mixed match. On rink two, Pam Keating led her rink to a decisive 20-8 victory. However, towards the latter stages of the game, Foxton stepped up a gear and secured a deserved 61-61 draw. Both teams were awarded a satisfying 3.5 points.
Elsewhere, Royston saw off Rosedale with a comfortable 102-76 win, with Rodney Dean and Roger Neville both in impressive form throughout.
nBarbara Clutterbuck (Meldreth) and Doreen Smith (Newnham) qualified for the final of the county over-55 pairs competitio at Ely, with a 20-12 win over the City of Ely pairing of Margaret Reader and Rosemary Sibson.
In the over-55 singles competition at the Ladies National Bowls Finals at Leamington, Barbara Clutterbuck was in top form, being on the green for almost ten hours in two days.
In a tight 28-end match, she defeated Lynn Peck (Beds) 21-19 and, after only a 30 minute break, was back playing against Joan Courtney (Herts) whom she beat 21-5.
Later in the day she played Wendy Johnstone (Wilts), a previous winner of the competition, and came out on top by 21 shots to 16 after 24 ends.
The following morning saw Barbara taking on local bowler Elizabeth Chedgzoy (Warks) and she came through 21-8 to reach the semi-final.
There she came up against an on-form Jayne Roylance (Norfolk) who has been an England international for the past 20 years, and who went on to win the competition.
