Royston Golf Club’s Senior Winter League championship was won by Andy Forbes on Friday.

Forbes capped his recent surge to the top of the standings with a winning display, as he withstood the pressure of the final day three ball to take the trophy.

In the ladies’ section, Pam Bonnett won the Silver Section medal, while the Bronze winner was Helen Steverson.

Marjory Humphreys and Sandra Williams won the club’s Coronation Foursomes competition and they now go forward to represent Royston in the area final at Dunstable Downs on Tuesday, August 11.

The March Saturday medal was won by Peter Rutter who ended up three shots clear with a score of 68.

Three golfers returned scores of 71, with Graham Richardson edging out Barry Buckerfield and Andrew Brooker for second thanks to a superior back nine performance.

On Sunday, the club held a three-person team event and the fine weather resulted in some good scoring.

With the team’s best score counting on par fives, their best two on par fours and all three golfers scoring on par threes, it was the team of Stuart Hunt, Wayne Hunt and Micky Joyner, who performed best of all with a score of 81 points.
