Royston Golf Club’s celebrated its champions at the annual prize giving evening.

The championship trophies went to Peter Rutter (Club Champion), Sarah Buckerfield (Ladies Champion) and Robert Brain (Junior Champion).

Club vice captain David Caunce and ladies’ vice captain Kath Caunce won the Family Foursomes Competition and received their Trophy from club captain Keith Wood.

In the year’s charity competitions, trophies went to Tim Moss and Marjory Humphreys for the Royal British Legion, Nigel Blake and Jenny Thompson for the Battle of Britain, Frank Calvert and Helen Steverson for the Grace Darling RNLI, Sam Chipperfield and Karen Pearson for the Rotary Shield and to Mark Moule and Kim Bradfield for the Hospital Cup.

Other trophies went to Stewart Hart, Chris Watson, Scott Parnell and Steve De Fraine for the Memorial Trophy, Mike Taylor (Midweek), Derek Hayden (Vets Centenary), David Bidwell (Northgraves), Peter Dean and Marjory Humphreys (Mixed Centenary), Terry Bonnett and Linda Lakey (Johnson Matthey Mixed), Stuart Hart and Sarah Buckerfield (Eddie Hughes Plate), Peter Rutter (Vernon Putting), Mick Merry (Vets Tankard), Paul Lewis and Jenny Jarvis (Secretary’s Cup), Mial Walker and Darren Messenger (Winter 4ball), Chris Watson and Robin Coles (Radcliffe 4somes), Nick Sugden and Peter Dean (Horace Sheppard 4ball), Ian Coath and Mial Walker (Charles Shepherd 4somes), Peter Rutter (Professional’s Scratch), Peter Prentice (Single Figure), Chris Little (Medal Winners),Chris Little (Viscount Hampden), Scott Parnell (Hastings Cup), Peter Prentice (Diamond Jubilee), Steve Marriott (Astill Scratch), Keith Taylor (President’s Cup), Keith Jest (Centenary Salver), Lee Bonney (Pulsatilla Cup), and Steve Marriott (Adamson’s China Cup).

On Saturday the club held its annual England versus Scotland golf match. Played as a 4BBB, the games were keenly fought with close finishes. At the evening meal, the Scottish team captain, Steve Ogilvie, presented the Trophy to the English winners who, led by Sid Seward, recorded a 5½ to 1½ win. The Ladies had a fabulous day for their Ladies Past Captain versus the Ladies Captain match. Playing in 4BBB format, the winners were the Ladies vice captain’s team led by Kath Caunce who beat the Past Ladies Captain’s team by two games.

Ladies’ section members who played included Sheila Wood, Moya Allison, Sandra Williams, Evelyn Fenton and next year’s Lady Captain elect Kath Caunce.Amongst the Lady Past Captains in attendance were, Karen Pearson, Jenny Middlemass, Alice Lewis, Bridget Long, Val Squires, Marjory Humphreys, Joan Buckerfield, Jan Stock ham, Lynn Barker, Linda Lakey, Tina Collins, Jane Millership, Gill Drewery, Shirley Bradshaw, Rita Turner, Joan Clark, Pam Bonnett and Kathy Musgrave.
