Uxbridge 30 Royston 13

ROYSTON were forced to play numerous players out of position at Uxbridge and ultimately it cost the game.

Despite the changes Royston were able to match their hosts during the first 20 minutes with the only scores coming from one penalty for each side.

The Crows showed some quick hands and pace in the backs to make some breaks early on, most notably from Robert Turner, but unfortunately nobody was able to cross the line with ball in hand.

Midway through the first half Joe Hillman was forced to leave the field with a suspected dislocated shoulder, so Chris Wallis made the move from the wing to join Nick Alford in the centre.

The reshuffle led to a flurry of points against Royston and as the whistle blew for half time the scoreline was 20-3.

The second half started poorly for Royston as Uxbridge put together another good passage of play to score a converted try.

Soon after came another penalty, but the three points were to be the last of the day for the hosts.

Showing outstanding spirit the Crows stepped up the pace with some close support play from forward and backs alike to take the play deep into Uxbridge half and Royston scored a try of their own after Alford outmuscled the opposition fullbacks.

Minutes later the ball found itself in the hands of Andy Smith but standing on the wing he had run out of space. He opted to kick instead and a good chase from Wallis saw him rewarded with Royston's second try.

The visitors played out the remainder of the game camped in the Uxbridge half, but they were unable to add to the score before the final whistle blew.

Royston's next match will be a friendly at home next weekend against Hertford Exiles.
