Royston didn't have enough to beat Hertford

Hertford 4 Royston Ladies II 2 TWO goals from Lucy Davidson were not enough to give Royston victory in this game. The hosts were slow to settle in to their game, a fact not missed by Royston, who were quick to take advantage of the gaps in the Hertford midfield. Some classic hockey by Jules Fuller and Davidson set up some beautifully placed balls for Ali Carroll. This hard work gave Royston the opportunity to take the lead when Davidson struck from the top of the D in a short corner and hit the back of the net. However, this spurred the home side on to equalise, leaving the teams level at half time. Royston held their nerve well until midway through the half, when three goals in the space of five minutes effectively put the visitors out of the game. Royston were only able to pull a goal back when a flick was awarded, which was ably converted by Davidson to give Royston their second goal of the game. Royston 5 DeMontford University 0 A GREAT team effort resulted in a comfortable victory against Demontford University for Royston Ladies. Royston started the first 10 minutes with some great play, moving the ball quickly and cleanly amongst the defenders up through the midfield to the forwards. The hosts were definitely looking the stronger side and scored just before half-time. A motivational team talk by Coach Malcolm Miller inspired the team to go all out in the second half. It was not long before Sarah Buckerfield and the South African Lisa hammered home another thee goals. Royston were unlucky not to score from several short corners but the visiting keeper was on form. Some great defensive play at the back from Jenny Last and Deb Casey, ensured that Demontford could not score. In true striker style, Sarah Buckerfield dribbled past four DeMontford players and neatly put the ball right on the backboard.
