Royston close in on top spot

ROYSTON Cricket Club maintained their charge towards the top of Junior League 3C with a second win in as many matches against bottom side Steeple Morden at Therfield.
To be fair to the visitors, Morden had a much stronger line-up than that which had shown up the previous Saturday, and Royston were made to work a lot harder for this result.
Steeple won the toss and decided that their best option was to have a bat. And things went considerably better than the desperately poor 62 all-out that they recorded in the reverse match as they posted a 155.
The Royston bowlers looked in good form, with John Harper in particular proving to be a constant thorn in Morden’s side with a five-wicket haul.
Toby Fynn took two wickets, as did Ash Judge, and Royston were confident they could chase the target without to much fuss.
And they did just that. Rory Harper top-scored with 43* while Paul Miller was also unbeaten on 29 in the 34 overs it took the hosts to put the match to bed.

Royston are now level on points with second placed Comberton, and with a game in hand over table-toppers Thriplow, hopes are high that promotion can still be achieved.
The only slight concern for them is that the other clubs in the league have all complained to the league due to former first-team players playing for the current side after the first team folded before the start of the season.
Whether or not the league takes any action or not is yet to be seen.
