Royston Bowls Club round-up
ROYSTON won two of their matches in the recent County Triples day.
Playing at home, Simon Lee, Stewart Brown and skip Matt Coppen dropped only eight shots in their game against a trio from Holwell, strolling home to a 29-8 win. It must be noted that Coppen found himself six shots down on the very first end, but with a wood of controlled weight, he removed three opposition woods to drop only a three.
Royston’s Don Sheriff skipped his team of Roger Davies and Keith Dockree to a narrow win of 16 shots to 14 in their game against a three from the Three Horseshoes BC.
It was a close call for Peter Adams in his National 55 and Over Singles match played at the Welwyn and District BC. His opponent, M Poole, managed to match Adams for most of the game, to go into the 20th end at 17 shots each. Poole crept ahead and was 20-17 up on end 22, but Adams kept his cool and picked up a one and a three to fall across the line by just one shot to claim victory at 21-20.
In the North Herts Ladies Fours, the Royston four of Maureen Gisby, Gillian Fisk, Anne Martin and skip Pam Keating were playing away to a team at Roebuck BC. This game concluded with a nail-biting finish. Royston were just two shots up going into the last end so every bowl had to count. But things went very wrong for the Royston skip as she found herself five shots adrift with only her last wood remaining. With a perfectly executed delivery she drew in for the second bowl, which only allowed her opponents a solitary single shot as Royston won 17-16.

In a County Singles game Peter Adams was unceremoniously outplayed by his club mate Simon Lee. Lee has been playing well this season and caught Adams out by sprinting away at the start of the game.
