Cambridge United played out a 2-2 draw against Morecambe at the Abbey Stadium, on Saturday. The U's took the lead through an excellent Jon Brady free-kick, but Morecambe equalised almost immediately and then went on to take the lead early in the second half. But on 71 minutes a goal from Stephen Smith on his return to the starting line-up ensured that the points were shared. - Last Thursday, four of United's players were released from their contracts. First-year pros Paul Atkins, Dave Daniels and Nick Robbins, plus young striker Mbiyeye Medine, were told they would not be offered deals for next season and their contracts have been cancelled by mutual consent. Manager Rob Newman had a warning for the remaining players in the squad: "There could be more going at the end of the season, so it's up to those who are left to show me that they want to be in the squad for next season." - The greater part of Cambridge City's youth structure will link up with the existing Cambridge United youth set-up at the end of this season. City's academy director Jez George will join the set-up at the Abbey Stadium as Head of Youth Development. United director Nick Pomery said: "This is a massive step towards a fully-integrated youth set-up that will offer opportunities to young footballers throughout the region. "We are especially pleased to bring Jez George on board at the Abbey Stadium and we are really looking forward to working with him to achieve more success throughout the club." - It was announced this week that match day admission prices for next season will not be increased. Season ticket prices for adults and concessions will rise by the cost of two extra games, due to the expansion of the Nationwide Conference to 24 clubs. However, under-16 and under-10 season ticket prices will remain unchanged. - United's next game is at Aldershot Town on Saturday, and the next home game is against York City on Friday, April 14, kick-off 7.45pm.
