REED Cricket Club have unveiled a plaque to mark the completion of a scheme to install a drainage system on The Green.

Councillor David Levett and Cllr Howard Marshall

Members of the club worked tremendously hard to raise the necessary funds for the work, which was desperately needed in order to combat adverse weather that so often leaves the pitch waterlogged and damaged.

The work was joint-funded by North Hertfordshire District Council through its PACIF (Parish Amenity Capital Improvement Fund) and Reed Cricket Club – with both parties contributing an amazing £8,000 each.

The plaque was unveiled by Councillor David Levett and Cllr Howard Marshall who is chairman of the club and has been for 40 years.

The club also unveiled a bench in memory of former club member Mike Jackson, who sadly passed away last year.

The unveiling was done by his two sons Simon and Christopher who are both club members.

The bench was paid for by a legacy from the family and it also paid for a trophy in Mike’s honour and contributed to the new pavilion clock. The inscription on the bench reads: ‘In memory of Mike Jackson, A fine sportsman and great Reed cricketer, 1953-2009.’
