Chris Jackson signed off in style to help Reed to victory over Chorleywood on the last day of the Saracens Herts League season.

With fourth place secured and Chorleywood consigned to relegation, there was nothing but pride to play for.

And Jackson, in his final outing for the first team, top scored with 38 as Reed were dismissed for 155.

A 55-run stand with Rob Lankester (25) helped Reed reach 111-4, before Ryan Evans (4-29) instigated a collapse, having taken nine wickets in their earlier meeting.

Ed Wharton (21) added vital late runs for the visitors and then took 2-30 to help Jack Tidey (2-7) reduce the home side to 36-4.

Chorleywood captain Scott Aspinall (53) rallied to help his side reach 96-5, after Stuart Smith (1-30) claimed his first scalp of the season.

And Smith took two catches on the boundary as Tom Greaves (3-19) and Lankester (2-2) sealed a 23-run triumph.

Reed CC thirds ended up well beaten in their final outing of the Saracens Herts League season.

Travelling to face champions Potten End, they saw the home side amass 233-9, despite fine efforts by Julian Fynn (2-21), Joe Graves (2-35) and Matt Yates (2-43).

Michael Robertson backed up their efforts with a short burst, while Steve Hughes (1-36) also had success to finish the season with 21 league wickets.

Youngest son Owen Hughes also chipped in with the ball, but Reed were found wanting in their run chase.

Fynn top scored with 30, but Owen Hughes and captain MJE Baker were the only other batsmen to reach double figures as they were dismissed for just 83.

Baker said: “It’s been a real pleasure captaining the team. We’ve endeavoured to stay positive no matter what the outcome and although results have been mixed, it’s been such a competitive division.

“Next season we will back ourselves to be contenders.”
