Tigers played host to a strong Thaxted side at the weekend, and despite the scoreline, they battled hard.

From the whistle Rangers applied strong pressure and opened the scoring after five minutes.

The Melbourn defence had to be on their guard, and Cameron Douglas, Jack Hammond and Sam Robinson stood firm.

Melbourn captain Mathew Davis and the covering Ben Cattley broke up a number of Thaxted moves in the middle of the park.

But despite their hard work, the visitors' strength in attack began to take its toll as Rangers began to find the back of the net with ease.

They were also too strong at the back, with Melbourn forwards Tom Lee and Adam Breeze failing to penetrate the defensive wall, although Robinson did go close with a strong solo run from inside his own half.

Keeper Jack Ovens was kept busy and pulled off a number of excellent saves to keep the scoreline down.

George Birch was Melbourn's man-of-the-match.

THE first-half was close with both sides failing to convert their chances.

George Storey came close on a couple of occasions for the Panthers, while at the other end Josh Bates kept the Hormead threat to a minimum.

The second-half continued with more of the same, again with both teams missing the target.

But when Panthers made a double substitution their rhythm was disrupted and within a few minutes they had conceded two quick goals.

Despite a spirited effort Melbourn just could not find a way through the Hormead defence and as a result failed to pull the game back.

Panthers keeper Ciaran McQuade was named as their player-of-the-match.

THE game started off with high speed action as Hormead pushed forward at every opportunity, and only missed chances kept the scoreline level.

However, the visitors' pressure finally paid off, and they took the lead midway through the half.

The home side responded well and within moments player-of-the-match Matthew Harris slotted the ball home to draw the scores level after some great work from Ryan Barton and Megan Jeray.

But just like Melbourn had done moments before, Hormead replied themselves with another well-taken strike from just inside the Melbourn box.

The second-half continued with fast end-to-end football, but it was Hormead who broke through.

The Melbourn players fought hard to get back in the game, but in the last few moments of the match Hormead snatched another two goals.
