HILLY! It's the only word to describe the cross country race at Therfield Heath hosted by Royston Runners. It was either up or down. There was no chance for the runners to catch their breath on this challenging course due to a lack of flat stretches. The runners also had the added worry of checking the ground for holes or jump over mole hills plus keeping an eye on the person in front and taking direction from the supportive marshals. However, all 200 competitors managed to finish the new course, albeit some worse for wear. There were several Royston Runners who managed to get it just right on the day. Paul Green (44th) saved just enough energy for a sprint finish, to indicate a return to form. It seems that marathon training does wonders even for shorter distances. This was highlighted by much improved performances from Richard Lowden (8th), Graham Hill (20th) and Leesa Duff (20th). It was great to see Jo Riley (15th) and Libby Mitchell (31st) finishing in scoring places for the women's team after lay-offs through injury.
