Crows secure services of Will Norris until end of the season

ROYSTON TOWN have secured the services of promising young goalkeeper Will Norris until the end of the season.

The 18-year-old, pictured right, signed a contract at the weekend and his manager Paul Attfield has expressed his delight at tying him down to a deal, believing him to have a very promising future in the game.

“I’ve just been astounded with how well he has done since he’s come in,” said Attfield.

“He’s come out of nowhere, really, and the maturity he’s shown for someone who’s just turned 18 is unbelievable. He hasn’t conceded a goal in the five league games he’s played for us and you can’t ask for any more than that.

“I really do think he’s got a very good future ahead of him and good luck to him.”

Attfield will be hoping Norris and his team can make it six clean sheets in a row when the Crows visit mid-table Broxbourne Borough on Saturday afternoon. The league-leaders go into the game on the back of five straight victories, but Broxbourne aren’t to be underestimated as they are currently the only team to have beaten Royston’s promotion-rivals Dunstable Town to date.

Midfielder Martin Standen is the only noticeable absentee for Town who, after a rare week off, go into the match at near-full strength.

“Broxbourne are a good team,” said Attfield. “I’m expecting a tough game on what is a difficult pitch. They had a bit of a tough start to the season but they’ve shown some good form of late so it won’t be an easy match for us.”

The Crows boss has singled out Dunstable Town as his team’s main title contenders this season. They have three games in hand over Royston and if they win those they will sit just three points behind the leaders.

However, Attfield says he isn’t overly concerned because it’s his team that has the points on the board at the moment.

He added: “They beat us well earlier in the season. They’ve got a big budget and good players who have played in higher divisions. They’ve developed their ground and have been able to attract decent players.

“But they’re the ones who are playing catch-up, and if we can get to the turn of the year in a strong position it will be tough for anyone to catch us. Most of the other teams that are up there have probably dropped too many points already.”
