A DISAPPOINTING weekend saw Baldock's first team lose both their games.

In their home game against Cavendish on Saturday, Baldock lost the toss and were asked to field.

Despite two early breakthroughs which left Cavendish 40-2 the visitors' positive batting got them through this and they managed to amass the daunting total of 263-7 off their 53 overs.

Thusara scored a superb 127 not out with many boundaries all round the park but Baldock's depleted attack stuck to the task well in hot and unfriendly bowling conditions with Giles Naylor taking three wickets in a gritty bowling spell and Andrew Taylor emulating him at the death.

Baldock got off to a similar start losing two wickets in the first 15 overs but then a superb stand of 120 between James Peacock and skipper Rob Cant looked like it would get Baldock a quite superb win

Even the loss of Cant for a well made 33 did not seem to deter the hosts as Peacock continued his slaughter of the Cavendish attack with alarming ease.

However when two quick wickets fell and when Peacock was caught on the boundary for a superb 115, Baldock's chase was all but over with the draw looking favourite.

The draw which Baldock richly deserved then became a distant memory as more wickets fell at the death to the returning Cavendish opening bowler and helped by some interesting umpiring decisions the hosts were finally dismissed for 215 in just over 40 overs.

Baldock's Sunday XI were on the end of a very quick loss to Houghton Town the following day..

Baldock with a weakened side batted first and were bowled out for 110. Only Andy Payne (21) made any useful runs as his side slumped to a disappointing score..

In reply Houghton needed just 12 overs to seal a six wicket win reaching 111-4 with some very positive shots from the first ball.

Graham Letford took two wickets on his Baldock debut.

Despite reducing hosts Chorleywood III to 10-3, Baldock II were forced to settle for a draw on Saturday.

With Rose hitting a century, Chorleywood finally declared on 229-6 from 50 overs, with Mark Lewis claiming 3-57.

229 was always going to be a difficult target for Baldock to reach, and the task appeared impossible when the in-form Waters was dismissed for one by the opening spin bowler.

Baldock did eventually achieve the two batting points they desired thanks to an excellent 53 from Pete Tily, and 44 from Frank Taylor. Baldock finally closed their innings on 166-6 in a game that contained some excellent individual performances, but little excitement as a contest.
