Held at Gosport, the track was fast and full of colour as the club gazebos started going up and with an entry of around 620 competitors on each day the weekend was non-stop action.

The Royston Rockets had seven riders taking part with Joshua Abbott in the eight-year-old class being the first on track each day where he made the class B final on Saturday and again on the Sunday to finish third on both days.

In the 11-year-old category, Alfie Salmon qualified for the quarter-final knock-out stages on Saturday and Sunday, whilst, in the 12-year-old class, James King continued his run of results from the previous rounds as he took the win in the class B finals on both days.

The Rockets had Daniel Blanche riding in the 13-year-old class where he again showed that even the slightest error can drastically affect results, going all the way to the A final on the Saturday where he took seventh place but only making the B final on Sunday to finish in 6th.

The 14-year-old male class saw Aaron Dalleywater returning to national level racing where he made the A final on Saturday to finish in seventh whilst on Sunday he took the win in the class B final.

The 17-29 class saw Chris Mapp take third in the B final on Saturday but after having to compete in a re-run of his semi-final on Sunday, he qualified for the A final where he finished in fourth.

In the elite category, his older brother Laurence had a variable weekend with a third place on Sunday but went out at the semi-final stage on Sunday as most of the riders in his race tangled in the tight third corner.

The next event for the Rockets will be the final round of the BMX East Regional series on August 11 at Ipswich with rider registration closing at 11.30am and the racing planned for 12.45. For more information visit www.roystonrockets.co.uk or www.bmxeast.com
