The annual ‘Lefties’ v ‘Righties’ match at Royston Golf Club ended in victory for the right-handers.

Following a hearty cooked breakfast in the clubhouse, club captain, David Caunce steered his right handed team to victory against a team of left-handers led by Stewart Hart.

The final points totals were 230 points to 204 with Darren Dawson and Graham Toby top-scoring for the ‘Righties’ with 42 points.

The Saturday medal produced some good scoring with Division One being won by Scott Parnell, posting a 65 off of his five handicap. Steve de Freine, playing off of 9, pinched second with 67 on count-back from Peter Law, who plays off of 11.

Division two also saw a 65 winning score with Graham Richardson being the victor off of his handicap of 15. Dave Rowell, also playing off of 15, was awarded second on count-back from Chris Paxton, handicap 16, as they both came in with 67.

For the Sunday Individual Stapleford competition names were drawn at random to determine tee times, enabling members to play golf with people they might ordinarily not get to know.

Winner on the day was Barry Rouse with 39 points. Glen Bowles came second with 37 whilst Darren Dawson pipped Nick Leah to third on count-back, both scoring 36.

The Ladies mid-week medal was held on a day when strong headwinds caused players difficulty on the back nine and reflecting in the winning scores. Carolyn Delaney won the day with a net 78.

Second was Sandra Williams with 80. Their Alternate Bogey competition Silver winner was Bridget Long at -3 on count-back from Denise Moody.

Bronze winner Helen Steverson came in at level par, playing to two under her handicap and beating Claire Beaumont on count-back.

On the social side, quiz-master Supreme, Barrie Parsons, hosted another of his infamous tests of the Golf Club member’s knowledge.

Ten teams took part with the subject this time being Sport including specialist rounds on ‘The Ashes’ and ‘The World Cup’.

Teams were able to demonstrate impressive recall of sporting facts both historic and modern day.
