YOUNGSTER Stuart Phillips continued his fine form by adding the Royston Golf Club Championship title to his growing trophy cabinet.

Phillips impressed from the start and his aggregate score of 139 (67+72) gave him a comfortable 11-shot margin over runner-up James Kidd, who finished on 150 (77+72).

Even by playing from a handicap of +2, Phillips' net 143 (67+2) and (72+2) was also too good for his rivals in the Single Figure Cup handicap competition which was played in parallel with the club championship.

Gavin Williams of Royston Golf Club said: "The fact that Phillips scored five birdies over the last six holes in the first round of the club championship, coupled with his victory in the men's Thursday medal a few days earlier, with a five under par gross 65 (net 67), provides a clear picture of the quality of golf which he is currently producing."

Other notable results include the Junior Centenary Final, which was won by James Smith whose net 71 (gross 76 - 5 handicap) narrowly pushed his brother Daniel Smith net 72 (gross 89 - 17 handicap) into second place, with Tom Porter net 72 (gross 88 - 16 handicap) coming third on the countback.

The men's Saturday medal was won by Ernest Wells net 68 (gross 90 - 22 handicap), who edged ahead of Kenneth Rushall net 68 (gross 85 - 17 handicap) on countback.

Club Chairman Keith Pitts captured top spot in the Sunday morning Single Stableford on 37 points, with countback again being required to confirm Tony Funston and Phil Neep in second and third positions respectively, both of them having scored 35 points.

n There was a great turnout for the Ladies Twilight Stableford competition with a field of 26 players taking part.

First in the Silver Division was Kathy Musgrave with 40 points (9 handicap), with runner-up Pam Bonnett having 37 points (10 handicap). The Bronze Division was won by Gill Drewery who scored 39 points (15 handicap), with Alice Lewis 38 points (13 handicap) securing second place.
