AT last week’s Annual Prize Giving ceremony at Royston Golf Club, lady club champion Emily Smith and men’s club champion Stuart Phillips received their respective trophies from the captain David Crossley and lady captain Karen Pearson.

Both captains now look forward to their Farewell Day this Saturday which will consist of an all-day golf competition and celebration evening.

In the Lady versus Gents match on Saturday the teams played Stableford betterball competition in horrendous weather and it was the men’s team that won by seven points. It was one of the first times the men have beaten the ladies for many years.

In the Autumn Seniors versus Juniors match, once again history was made when the senior team beat the junior team by three games to two.

On Saturday in the Stableford competition, Trevor Sweeting played well in the wet conditions to score 37 points off his nine-handicap. In second place was Ray Sammons (was off eight but no off seven) with 36 points ahead of Stewart Hart (now off 10) also on 36 but beaten on countback over the last six. One point behind on 35 points were both Darren Messenger and Brian Holson.

Sunday’s Four-Ball Betterball competition saw the pairing of Darren Thompson and Darren Dawson score 44 points with five birdies and an eagle in their fabulous round.

In second place with 41 points were Dave Shaw playing with Martin Shipley followed by Barry Rouse partnered with Peter Prentice also with 41 points but losing on countback.
