ALICE Lewis, partnered by club captain David Drake, won the prestigious Johnson Matthey Mixed Draw Cup at Royston Golf Club on Saturday.

Their winning score of 36 points was equalled by Linda Lakey and Dick Parsons but Lewis and Drake won on the countback rule with a better back nine.

Keith Cridland won Division One of the Monthly Medal on Sunday and also finished top in the qualifier for the Centenary Trophy, with a nett 67 from his 12 handicap.

Mick Merry put in another great performance and also finished with a 67. Tied in third were Mark Rogers (70-1=69) and Ben Geldart (74-5=69).

Mark also tied for the best scratch prize with Stuart Phillips a +1 handicapper and current club champion.

Division Two was won by Peter Dean who, with a nett 69, was the only player to beat his handicap in that division.

Runner-up was Eric Baker and joint third were Ian Stewart and Gerry Squires. The top 15 nett scores go forward to the final of the Centenary Trophy which will be held on July 9.

The scratch team had a fine away victory at the holders Newmarket last week.

The pairings of Stuart Phillips and Jack Yetton, Tom Greenaway and Mark Rogers, together with Robert Clark and Adam Woods, all won for a 6-0 victory which keeps alive their chances of winning Division One in the County league.

The juniors had a busy week, starting with a stableford on Tuesday, which was won by Hugo Christie with 38 points.

Runner-up was Greg Fyson, who finished just ahead of Tom Smith. The seniors played the juniors in a friendly match on Wednesday and although the juniors put out a strong side, the experience of some of the Seniors meant that the match was halved.

Nine Royston juniors played in the Boys' County Championship at Ely on Friday and found the course playing very tough.

Chris Trimble won the best scratch score of the morning, but could not maintain his form in the afternoon. James Sandford had two steady scores that kept him well up the leaderboard.

Eight members of the Sean Clark Junior Academy competed at the area qualifier of the HSBC Wee Wonders at Cambridge Lakes on Friday.

Although none qualified for the area final, many achieved personal best scores in what is becomming the biggest junior tournament in the UK.

Jonathan Windle and Ryan Sharp finished third in their categories and other notable performances were from Lyle Clark, Tom May and Ben McDonnell.
