THE successful Barkway Park team.

ONE of Heydon Grange's newest members, David Parry, has won the Spray Avia Trophy - the first competition he has entered.

Parry stormed round the Essex and Cambs course with a net 41 points in the stableford competition.

The runners-up spot also went to another new Heydon Grange member, Terry Kennerson, who beat Ken Harvey on countback after both had returned scores of 39 points.

However, Margaret Harvey and Jean Black could not repeat their recent form, and crashed out of the Daily Mail Foursomes competition, despite their home soil advantage.

Their opponents from Haverhill, Sue Carr and Pat Kennedy, came out on top, in what turned into a very tight encounter.

It was all square all the way to the 17th, before Carr and Kennedy won the short par three to go one up.

However, Harvey and Black could not force the extra holes when the 18th was halved.

Heydon's hopes of doing a consecutive weekend double of qualifying for the second round Derek Burridge Challenge after their triumph the previous week in the Jock Stewart, failed at the hands of long-time rivals Barkway Park.

Only one of the Heydon pairs managed to win, Steve Miller and Malcolm Knoble-Forbes, with the rest losing, as Barkway played some impressive golf at the Herts and Essex course.
