PANTHERS kept their 100 per cent for the season in tact, with a professional display against a well drilled Letchworth side.

The early exchanges were fairly even with chances being created at both ends, but the deadlock was finally broken when Reece King used his skill to open up the defence and put Sam Webb through, his shot slipped through the keeper's hands into the back of the net for the first.

The second half began with some hard but fair tackles being made in all areas of the field, with the strength of Nathan Henry and Byron Lawrence beginning to control the game in midfield.

Henry's short corner found Lawrence on the corner of the box and his lethal left boot buried the ball in the bottom corner of the net, giving the excellent Letchworth keeper no chance.

The away side got one back when their captain Adam Morris struck a shot from outside the area into the top left hand corner of the net.

Melbourn then showed how much they had matured as a team by attacking the away side straight from kick off and not allowing them to gain any confidence.

Great link up play from the hard working strikers of Patrick Hopper and Jack Richardson, created the space for Lawrence to smash home the third and seal a well earned win.

Hitchin Town Youth 8

THE final scoreline masked just what a close tussle this game was.

The hosts gifted Hitchin a two-goal lead despite even opening exchanges.

Dominic Oxenford then surged forward from midfield, beat the Hitchin defence to a loose ball and drove it home in fine style to narrow the defecit.

Unfortunately for Royston, the idea that you're most vulnerable just after scoring proved to be true and within moments it was 3-1 to Hitchin. Two further goals followed for the visitors and it looked to be all over for Colts.

Then the fight-back got under way. Craig Lucken won the ball close to the byline and crossed to Roger Skeggs whose shot bounced off the keeper to the feet of Oxenford, gifting the winger with his second goal of the match.

Skeggs then capped a brilliant display of skills and determination by latching on to a corner and firing home Royston's third, before a fine header by Ryan Ingrey from a probing Jack Tidey free kick made it 5-4.

There followed one of those crucial moments that can turn the course of a game. Royston won a penalty and the chance to level the scores.

Harry Noades' effort looked to be textbook, hard and low, but it bounced off a post, and the hosts seemed to sense that maybe it was not to be their day after all.

More goals followed for Hitchin as Colts rued their misfortune, but with one game remaining Royston can take heart from a spirited performance.

Melbourn Dynamos Tigers U-10 0 Letchworth GCE Whites 0

THIS top of the table clash saw strong defensive performances from both sides.

Letchworth started brightly but it soon became clear that Dynamos' Ben Jones, Josh Chamberlain and Alex Martin were more than capable of dealing with everything that came at them.

Sam Robinson, returning in goal after injury, showed excellent handling and improved distribution to help Melbourn clear their lines.

Tigers struggled to get going offensively but it certainly was not due to lack of effort as Andrew Wilkins, George Birch and Jamie Fothergill worked hard to create chances against a well-organised defence.

Dynamos looked more likely to score in the second half with Joe Carrington providing his usual threat from the left, aided by some creative running off the ball by Clyde Thompson.

In the dying seconds, Letchworth were awarded a free-kick just outside the area but the Dynamos' wall did the job to preserve their title hopes with two games remaining.
