TWO Royston club swimmers will compete against the best in Hertfordshire over the next two weeks at the county swimming championships. Alex Snowden, 11, of Royston, will be competing in freestyle, breaststroke and individual medley races, and Millie Farmer, also 11, of Shepreth, in freestyle, backstroke and individual medley events. The youngsters, both members of Royston Swimming Club, had to achieve qualifying times to gain entry to the annual gala, which is being held at Borehamwood over three weekends. "It's a major achievement for them and I'm delighted," said Royston Swimming Club head coach Tricia Dear. "They are both outstanding young swimmers and the only two members of the club who have qualified this year, although we have another four or five who are very close. "They're competing against the best in a very large and very strong county. By the end of the championships they'll have a ranking in the county and nationally. "I would expect them both to be ranked in the top 20 in Hertfordshire in their age groups." Alex also swims for Cambridge Swimming Club and Millie appears for Buntingford. They are being joined at the county championships by Buntingford swimmer Georgia Makin, also 11, who is representing her second club, Hatfield.
