Steeple Morden 2 Ashdon Villa 7

STEEPLE Morden had only themselves to blame after scoring three own goals to gift league leaders Ashdon United victory.

With the influential Holt brothers and Martyn Lees missing, Steeple manager Kenny Watters fielded a youthful and reorganised side.

Although Villa started brightly, Steeple soon pegged them back with a mixture of slick and competitive football and lone striker Frankie Berry broke the deadlock on 33 minutes by finding the bottom corner after some good build up play by Dom Oxenford.

Soon after Matt Chapman found the lively Berry who lost his marker with a superb turn before being brought down by the final defender.

The resulting free-kick from Charlie Prothero was well saved.

With 20 seconds of the half remaining Steeple failed to clear their lines and were duly punished from the edge of the box.

The visitors went ahead shortly after the restart but Steeple bounced back when Harrison powerfully headed home a Berry corner to make it 2-2.

More poor defensive work allowed Villa to score two quick goals. Veteran keeper Tim Tidey was cleverly lobbed to make it 3-2 to Villa and then Tidey was punished for a poor punch.

With Steeple trying to push on to get back into the game the league leaders exploited the gaps which were left behind.

They added three more goals before the end of the game, all of which went in off unfortunate Steeple defenders.

A shell shocked Kenny Watters said: "We were sloppy in the second half but fair play to them, they made it difficult for us and put the ball in places it was difficult to defend."

Team: T Tidey, Richardson, Donald, Jarman, Collins (J Tidey), Oxenford (Gilley), Prothero, Harrison (Parr), Morris, Chapman, Berry.
