JONATHAN Osler won the prestigious Pulsatilla Cup at Royston Golf Club on Sunday.

Osler's 70 left him trailing Paul Reid by two shots after the first round.

Reid's playing partner Chris Little also managed to beat his handicap with a 69 that was also matched by Phil Neep and Marcus Shipley.

The afternoon round saw many players drop out in the extreme heat, but like the weather, Osler's putter was red hot, and he completed his second round by birdying the final hole for a nett 67 and a two round total of 137 off his five handicap.

Reid sealed the runners up spot by posting a 72 in the afternoon, to complete his 36 holes in level par from his eight handicap.

Alistair Livesey shot a fine 68 in the second round, which pushed him into third spot, despite starting with an eight on his first hole.

The cup, which has been played for since 1934, will be presented at the annual prizegiving in October.

Maurice Conybear won the single stableford with 33 points, showing how difficult the conditions were.

Warwick Raymen finished second with 30, and Chris Powell tied up third spot.

The ladies held their annual three clubs and a putter competition on Thursday, and Marjory Humphreys was a worthy winner, amassing a creditable 34 points.

Pam Bonnett took second place on countback from Val Squires, with both players scoring 33 points.

The scratch team had a resounding win at home against Saffron Walden on Wednesday.

Top pair of Jack Yetton and Stuart Phillips won 4up. Oli Bance and Mark Rogers matched their score.

The final pairing of Robert Clark and Jonathan Osler completed the rout with a 6up victory.
