ROYSTON youngster Nathan Wilson is set to travel to America to take part in the prestigious Big Orange Basketball Camp in Syracuse.
The former Greneway pupil, who plays for Leopards BC will take part in the 10-day trip which will see him play at one of the best basketball camps for school-age players in America.
Wilson won the trip after he was voted the most valuable player at a tournament at Ware Basketball Camp last summer.
The 17-year-old will now take on his American counterparts in the hope of securing a place in one of the top teams in the American college system.
Over the years Syracuse, who are nicknamed The Orange, have provided a number of players for the NBA.
Wilson said: "I can't wait to go, it should be a really good experience. Hopefully, if things work out. they may want me to play for them"
It has been a great year for Wilson, who represented England under-18s, and made his first team debut for the Leopards, where he is now expected to feature regularly in the forthcoming campaign.
Ware Camp director Roy Birch predicts a bright future for the 6ft 9in centre and said: "Nathan's got tremendous potential, and if he plays his cards right he could get a scholarship - I know their coach is very interested."
San Jose State University is also believed to be keeping an eye on Wilson, and will have the chance to look at him when a team travels to Wodson Park on Saturday, August 18, to play the Leopards.
- There are still a few places left on the Ware Basketball Camp, which is staged at Wodson Park during the week commencing July 23.
