Broxbourne VIII 7 Royston IV 1 A weakened Royston side travelled to Broxbourne for the last hockey league game of the season hoping to finish in style. Unfortunately, a significantly strengthened Broxbourne side proved too strong. Thanks mainly to some good goalkeeping by Phil O'Donnell, Royston were only 1-0 down at half-time. The second half started badly as the home side increased their lead with two quick goals. Royston did rally at this point, with Sam Polge scoring from a worked short corner, and they were able to put Broxbourne under pressure. As Royston tired in the last quarter the home side punished any errors. It was a disappointing end to what has been a successful campaign for the fourth team, with promotion next season to Division 8 SW. There was also a blow for Royston II, who lost 6-0 at West Herts, and Royston III who went down 4-1 at Letchworth IV.
