OLI Bance retained his Junior Open title at Royston Golf Club by seeing off a field of 42 players.

The county junior captain finished three shots ahead of fellow Royston member James Smith with a gross 76.

Bance says he wants to follow in the footsteps of the 1975 winner Nick Faldo, who shot an impressive 67 to secure his first trophy.

In the stableford event for the higher handicappers, Royston's Andrew Brooker blew the field apart with 47 points, which has seen his handicap slashed to 28.

Clayton Bull from Gog Magog was runner-up on 35 with another Royston player, Luke Bailey, third with 34.

James McKenzie and his son Adam won the club's family foursomes for the second time, scoring 34 points. They beat Steve and Andrew Brooker by two points.

Past captains and holders, David and Jane Drake finished third on countback.

Jim and Anne Evans had the best front nine, and professional Sean Clark and his seven-year-old son Lyle were the back nine winners.

The Ladies Phillips Cup was won by 31 handicapper Paula Offer, who finished four shots clear of Carolyn Devaney, with Val Squires third.

Steve Rogers won the Saturday Medal ahead of past captain Robin Coles.

Rogers' nett 72 could have been much better, had he not dropped four shots on the last five holes.
