O’Connor takes bronze in Tae Kwon-Do World Championships

BASSINGBOURN-based Gemma O’Connor won a bronze medal in the recent International Tae Kwon-Do Federation World Championships held in South Korea.

BASSINGBOURN-based Gemma O’Connor won a bronze medal in the recent International Tae Kwon-Do Federation World Championships held in South Korea.

The 16-year-old won the bronze for her individual sparring – making her the third best in the world at her age group.

Gemma travelled to Asia along with three of her fellow club members, Sophie Donnelly, Thomas Flavell-McNelliey and Jodi Horan after training rigorously for six months in Swindon.

She was also part of the Junior Girls Team that are now world champions after receiving gold in the team sparring. Gemma herself sparred against America, Argentina and Ireland, beating each girl to get the Team Gold medal. Team England won overall best country coming home with 52 medals.

The team also received the bronze medal for team patterns to cap off an enormously successful tournament.
