JUST when Royston Town finally appeared to have solved their defensive woes, they have a hit a slump at the other end of the pitch.

Just one point and no goals from two fixtures have left Phil Snowden's team still perilously close to the relegation zone, with both the sides below them needing only a moderate return from their games in hand to send the Crows to the bottom of the table.

Snowden's consolation from this week's results will be that his side, who were averaging more than three goals conceded per game, have tightened up at the back.

But with seven games remaining, and several players due to serve suspensions, things are looking bleak for Royston.

Saturday's dour draw against St Margaretsbury was notable only for Jason Nash's dismissal midway through the second half.

Nash received the Crows SEVENTEENTH red card of the season after being judged to have stamped on a visiting player after the pair had become tangled following a tackle.

After that it was just a case of the home side hanging on to take a point from the game.

The boot was on the other foot on Tuesday evening as Royston were up against a side who played with 10 men for 62 minutes.

Phil Otum saw a straight red after throwing two punches at David McMurrough after the Crows striker had caught him with a late tackle.

Snowden's side never made their one-man advantage count in a game in which they created few chances, and they were made to pay in the 79th minute when Liam Meenan netted from a corner.

Crows' chairman Graham Phillips thought they were unlucky not to take a point.

"I thought we deserved something from the game," he said.

"It was a tight game, and I think we could have got a draw.

"Bradley Poole had probably his best game for us at full-back. He had lots of energy, and was one of the bonuses.

"It must be one of the few times this season that we've finished with more players than the opposition! "

The Crows face trips to two mid-table teams this week, visiting Biggleswade United on Saturday, and travelling to Aylesbury Vale on Tuesday.

Dave McMurrough will miss Saturday's game after collecting a one-match ban following his fifth yellow card of the season.
