ROYSTON Tennis Club started the first leg of their annual tournaments with the men's and ladies' singles on Saturday.

It was touch and go with the weather, the rain managed to hold back but the virtually gale force wind made it very interesting serving for the five ladies and six men who entered.

The ladies champion was Pru Burton with Christine Knight as runner up.

In the men's competition, Matt Fellingham retained his title, with John Goodbody taking second place.

The competition continues at Meridian School on Saturday with the men's and ladies' doubles.
