NEIL Skehel won the Lombard Qualifying Medal, at Royston Golf Club, on Sunday. The wind made it difficult for the 98 entrants, but it was Skehel with a nett 67 from his 19 handicap who secured the right to play with club professional Sean Clark at Littlestone Golf Club, Kent, in June. The winners of the pro-am format will play in the final on the Algarve later in the year in what is the biggest such event in Europe. Division One was won by Robin Christie (79-11=68) from a host of players on countback, Ted Prestbury (78-10=68), Stuart Phillips (68-0=68), Jim Geraghty (79-11=68) and Robert Clark (69-1=68). Division Two was won by Skehel, just ahead of Gerry Agnew (89-20=69) and Rob Debnam (83-14=69). The Ladies v Gents match played on Saturday ended in a draw. The largest margin of victory went to Kathy Musgrave and Sandra Joyner, who beat Bob Turner and Terry Bonnett 5 & 4. The ladies, as holders, played their first Jean Wilkinson County match at St Neots last week and won convincingly under the captaincy of Jane Drake, as well as defeating Abbotsley in a friendly match.
