A national game took place this week when Stan Whitehouse, Joan Knights, Eileen Hyde and Simon Lee, beat St Ippolyts’ Val Bingley, Murial Cooper, Brian Todd and Terry Saunders 20-19 on home territory in the National Mixed Fours.

Champion of Champions was also played, with Joan Walsh (Riverain) narrowly beating Rachael Tremlett (Roebuck) by one shot, 21-20.

In another close game Royston’s County Club Team, away against Aston, lost by one shot.

County games continued with Rachael Tremlett beating Gillian Fisk 21-15 in the Unbadged Singles, but in the Ladies’ County Pairs Eileen Hyde and Eunice Dockree had a definitive win against Murial Cooper and K Wilkinson from Three Horseshoes 32-15. Laurie Ramsey beat Colin Coles, also Three Horseshoes, by a healthy 21-8.

In the North Herts Pairs Maureen Gisby and Shirley Pawson lost to a team from St Ippolyts 30-17, a game that slipped away on the last three ends. In the MDL against Little Shelford Royston picked up five points to two through two high scoring rinks, Beryl Huckle, Don Ward and Linda O’Flanagan 23-10 and Charles Bowyer, Maureen Gisby and Terry Williams 21-10.

The Vets had mixed success losing to Whitethorn 63-88 in spite of a high scoring rink, Nigel Gascoyne, Terry Lovegrove and Maureen Gisby 21-13, but against North Herts. won 81-73, Hans Rijk, Maureen Gisby and Derek Goodwin, 23-10 and Clive Moore, Ken Collinge and Eileen Hyde 18-10 tipping the score in Royston’s favour.

Two friendly games were played at the weekend, firstly away to Hitchin winning 71-62, highest rink being Andy Keating, Ken Collinge, George Lewis and Will Martin 25-11 and secondly against Buntingford at home, Royston winning a tight game by three shots 110-107.
