ROYSTON'S winning National Two Fours run came to an end when the club were knocked out by Barton-Le-Clay.

Simon Lee, Mel Flack, Mick O'Flanagan, and skip Stewart Brown, scored well in the mid section of the game and came away winners by a good margin of 23 shots to 12.

However, the rink skipped by Peter Adams, with Colin Pawson, Laurie Ramsay, and Matt Coppen lost by 24 shots, going down 33-9.

Despite the first performance, Royston slipped to a 45-32 defeat.

However, Royston's contingent in the county competitions remain strong with Don Sheriff, Sean Young, Matt Coppen, and Stewart Brown seeing off their Holwell opponents 24-12 in the County Fours.

Simon Lee, Laurie Ramsay, Mick O'Flanagan, and skip Peter Adams also impressed and romped home to a 27-5 victory against Baldock.

However, despite a hard-fought match, Peter Graves, Peter Fisk, Colin Wilson, and skip Will Martin slipped to a narrow 24-20 defeat, having trailed 12-0.

Royston's Eileen Sheriff has been making steady progress in the Ladies Champions of Champions competition, with another commanding performance, dispatching Shirley Bragbury of Letchworth Conservatives 21-18.

Sheriff is also through to the Neutral Greens competition and the last eight of the county singles.

In the men's county single matches, Matt Coppen saw off S Kilford of Roebuck with a comfortable 21-8 win, while Laurie Ramsay beat clubmate Simon Lee 21-7 to claim his place in the next round.

In the Over 55s Pairs, Don Sheriff and Peter Adams could only manage to score on eight of the 21 ends and as a result crashed to a 21-14 defeat against McKenzie and Cracknall of Havers Park.

Royston suffered further disappointment in the Wills Trophy, losing to Roebuck of Stevenage.

After 10 ends Royston were ahead on all three rinks and were playing well.

However, Roebuck mounted a steady rally and edged back into the game. With Royston's Don Sheriff, Sean Young, Matt Coppen and skip Stewart Brown slipping behind and eventually losing 27-18, pressure began to mount on the Royston shoulders.

With play on two rinks remaining, Brian Pepper, Mel Flack, Laurie Ramsay and Peter Adams were holding their own on rink two. However, Roebuck scored six shots in the last two ends, to register a 20-16 victory.

On rink three Mick O'Flanagan, Colin Pawson, Terry Hollands, and Simon Lee secured a 22-15 victory to give a small taste of success, however Royston still slipped to a disappointing defeat.

MELDRETH battled the weather and a difficult away fixture - but nonetheless came away with a fine win.

Drawn against Barrington in the first round of the Kenzie Cup, the action was made by strong winds and as a result early play was tight.

The hosts did come out on top on rink three, with the teams sharing a draw on rink two. However, Meldreth fought back and claimed wins on both rink one and four, with the visitors registering a 85-65 victory.
