YOUNG basketball player Nathan Crossman has been invited to try out for the Eastern Region under 13 squad.

The Greneway School pupil was recommended after a great season of basketball and joined other trialists in Ipswich (yesterday) for a two-day trial.

Nathan, 13, said: "I've played well this year and hopefully I can show what I can do at the trials and get picked. I was really happy when I found out and quite surprised.

"I'm really looking forward to the trials and I think that I can do well. I want to show my fitness and skill at getting to the rebounds."

Nathan is part of the successful Greneway team that has only lost once in the last two years.

He is also part of the Corvus Cornix Basketball Club and the 2007 under 14 double winning Essex & Herts Leopards BC.

Greneway coach Terry Graves said: "Nathan is a talented player and his main assets are his coachability, attitude, skill, team play, and size.

"This is a great opportunity for him and the next stage after the Regionals is the national team.

"So this is hugely important because it puts Nathan in a small elite group."

The power forward said he would love to represent England and follow the same path as former Greneway pupil and England under 18 player Nathan Wilson.

He said: "Nathan Wilson is doing very well and he's a really good player.

"I would love to follow in his footsteps and represent England - that would be amazing.
