DOUG Moule e won the Senior Captain's Day on Friday at Royston Golf Club, with an incredible 44 stableford points.

Despite starting with a seven at his opening hole he managed to tame The Heath course with a string of pars and went round in a gross 75 that has now seen his 13 handicap trimmed to 11.

Ian Gavine took second place on countback from Bob Lee. Both players finished on 35 points. Keith Wood won the front nine prize and John Weaver scooped the best back nine. Club president, Tom Shaw, Mike Taylor and John Fyson won the hidden team event.

Sid Seward beat Dave Rowell in the play off for the Veterans Trophy on Sunday. Seward played some steady golf to record a nett 68, which was too good for Rowell.

- The Men's Medal was also played on Sunday and although the weather played havoc for the later starters there were some good scores, with one shot separating the top eight players in Division One.

Former club champion, Robert Clark, finished on top shooting a gross 69, nett 68 to take the honours that will also see him competing in the Medal Winner's final in two weeks time.

He also won the best scratch prize. Runner up on countback was Ben Geldart (73-4=69), just ahead of Nigel Thomas (81-12=69). Other players who finished with nett 69's were Jason Nolan, Gary Hainsworth, Dave Shaw, Mick Joyner and Phil Neep.

Stuart Hunt won Division Two, two shots ahead of his nearest rivals. His nett 66, from his 13 handicap will now see him competing in Division 1 and the Medal winners final. Bill Sandford finished second and Robin Coles finished third.

- Tina Collins won the ladies stableford last week, just a point ahead of Mary Mitchell. Vi Bauckham took third place.

- Played over the Essex and Cambridgeshire courses at Heydon Grange, 28 players faced a stiff challenge in the last mixed competition of the year.

With net scores counting, this stroke play competition requires both players to hold their game together for a chance of the trophy.

Closest of the men's pairings and in third place were Steve Miller (12) and Ivan Drury (17) with a combined 152.

Second on 147 were Tina Broadley (8) and lady captain Roz McKenzie (17). However, runaway winners were Tammini Hurst (19) and Elaine Knobel-Forbes (20) with an impressive 140 after Hurst shot a net 67

Elaine Knobel-Forbes continued her good form, when she secured the Summer Singles Trophy by beating Dawn Glennie (10) two-up in a closely fought final.
