Mossey refusing to dwell on horror injury as Royston man returns to Thruxton

The 25-year-old Royston racer broke his L2 vertebrae in a high-speed crash which nearly ended his 2017 season.

But while some may feel unsettled at the thought, Mossey is refusing to dwell on the past.

The JG Speedfit Kawasaki rider said: “It was a bad crash last year but I’ve fully recovered since then and I like the Thruxton circuit; we’ve had strong podium finishes here in the past.

“I’m hoping this is where the team and I can get strength for the remaining rounds of the season.”

The Thruxton race circuit is one of the fastest on the BSB calendar, with legendary high-speed corners and a reputation for really testing racers’ skills.

And as one of the longest tracks in the UK at 2.4 miles per lap, it’s where the riders in BSB will reach their top speeds of the season after they exit Church corner on the run up to the final chicane.

The design of the Hampshire circuit means that it’s usually a close battle with riders bunched up together right up until the chequered flag.

Mossey hasn’t had the best of seasons so far and is currently sitting 17th out of the 27-rider championship field.

He said: “It’s been tough this season but after my crash at Snetterton, where I damaged my ribs, and my off race at Brands, I feel the team and I are all pulling in the right direction.

“We had some positive results at Brands, where I topped free practice, so we know we have the capability to do well.

“I believe we can build on the positives and do well in Thruxton.”

It’s going to be another weekend full of action, with Mossey taking to the stage on Sunday for the round seven event.

The series will have another five races after this weekend with Silverstone, Brands Hatch again and Assen in the Netherlands on the calendar.

Mossey’s JG Speedfit team-mate Leon Haslam leads the standings, a whopping 80 points clear of Jake Dixon in second.

The Royston speedster is in 17th on 34 points.
