Bluntisham 0 Foxton 4

FOXTON recorded their fifth consecutive win away at lowly Bluntisham on Saturday.

After a bright start in which they missed a few chances, Foxton finally took the lead in the 15th minute with a spectacular goal from Jamie Clark.

A long throw from Andy Gray deep into the area was headed away by the Bluntisham defence, but unfortunately for them straight towards Clark, who from 20 yards turned and acrobatically bicycled kicked the ball into the far top corner to the joy of his team mates, although manager Sean Audley had to be substituted after injuring his hamstring in the celebrations.

Foxton continued to control the game as the first half went by, but failed to add to their 1-0 lead.

The second half started much the same as the first had ended with Foxton in control and after 10 minutes they went 2-0 up through Duncan Handscombe after being played in by Darren Chamberlain following a slick passing movement with Adam Fields.

Foxton then continued to miss chances but finally made it three with 30 minutes of the half played.

This time, in-form Fields latched on to a clever pass from Gray and had no trouble slotting past the oncoming goalkeeper.

Bluntisham kept trying in vain to get back into the game, but they never really threatened the Foxton goal.

The fourth goal for Foxton came from Handscombe on 80 minutes again created by Chamberlain following by a mazey run down the right hand side, who then coolly finished.

Foxton also gave a debut to new signing Sean Douglas, who was unlucky not to score in the last minute with a diving header.

Royston Town A 7 Cottered Res 0

THE Crows' return to action after another weather-induced lay proved to be a triumphant affair with this emphatic victory over near neighbours Cottered.

It took 20 minutes for the home side to get into a pattern of play and from the moment James Merideth headed home a sweeping seven-man move there looked to be only one winner.

Lee Bates was next on the score sheet with his 20th goal of the season with a neat finish from close range.

Arash Kowkabzadheh put his side three up converting a smart passing move involving Hodgson and Chaffey.

The hosts side once again showed lack of killer instinct and relaxed and backed off and this gave Cottered a glimmer of hope just before half-time.

Royston used the break to full advantage to take on board the motivational talk and formation changes, and Bates took the score to four, when he neatly placed a cushioned shot wide of the visiting keeper.

Mark Evans made it 5-0 after a deep Royston corner kick before Kenny Blair announced his return to action with a fierce low drive past the keeper and skipper Dan Crosk notched from the spot after Bates had been upended to round off Town's day.

City Life 5 Steeple Morden Res 0

THE first time a Morden player touched the ball was to retrieve it from the net as City Life signalled their intent, scoring inside the first 20 seconds.

It was the worst possible start and things did not get any better when Morden conceded a second three minutes later.

The visitors' discipline was nowhere to be seen as the home side mounted wave after wave of attacks, and but for poor finishing could have extended their lead.

Gradually Morden got a grip, Damien Pennell broke free of his marker but snatched at his shot and a David Buey free kick was smothered by the keeper.

Steve Little was booked for "persistent infringement" as frustrations surfaced.

With half time approaching Morden conceded a third.

In an effort to keep the ball in play Darren Jarman inadvertently presented the home side with a gilt-edged chance that they made full use of.

Keeper Paul Jarman's punched clearance lacked distance and fell kindly at the feet of a City Life forward and he finished calmly.

The second period brought about a more resolute performance, and Morden created a number of chance with Pennell and Roy Dunsford going close.

Jarman pulled off an excellent point-blank save to deny the home side a fourth. Morden were denied a penalty for handball from Buey's free kick with 20 minutes remaining.

Sam Cook was lively out wide and consistently got in behind to give the visitors hope but it was not to be and the hosts added two more late on.

Morden will hope for better luck when they take on Barrington Reserves at the Recreation Ground on Saturday.

Morden: Jarman P, Robson, Buey, Jarman D, Little, Gates, Geraghty, Prentice, Clark, Pennell and Dunsford. Subs: Burr and Cook
