STEEPLE Morden Reserves are still searching for their first win of the season after slipping to another away defeat.

Manager Andy Smith partnered Paul Hutley, who returned from first team duty, in the centre of an experienced backline but they were helpless when the home side controversially took the lead shortly before half time.

A cross was bundled over the line from close range but despite the linesman flagging for offside the goal was allowed to stand.

Pete Summers had Steeple's best chance of the first half but his shot was comfortably saved after good link up play from the Steeple strikers had put him clear.

Steeple thought they had equalised when veteran striker Karl Parr despatched a left foot effort in the bottom corner only for the effort to be flagged offside.

Minutes later Steeple gave the ball away and a swift break by the home side resulted in an own goal as Hutley attempted to clear the danger from a low cross.

Tim Tidey used all his experience to keep Steeple in the game with a fine one-on-one save.

Matthew Stubbs was introduced on 65 minutes and helped Steeple exert some pressure and his through ball found Parr who finished confidently only to be denied again by the linesman's flag again.

The game was ended as a contest when the home centre forward picked up a loose ball and finished smartly with a low drive to make it 3-0.

Steeple Morden Reserves: Tidey, K Smith, A Smith, Hutley (Geraghty), Clark, Summers (Stubbs), Carlton, Pollard, Holt (Thorp), Parr, Neaves.
