ON a rain-affected wicket Steeple Morden managed to secure a narrow one-wicket win over Mill Green.
Batting first the visitors made a bad start with Jack Tidey and Richard King reducing Mill Green to 4 for 2, before a Doveston and Williams lead recovery took them to 48 for 2.
Tim Tidey then took a superb low catch off the bowling of Martin Osborne 3 for 20, while Darren Jarman (3 for 29) and King (3 for 15) supported admirably in Steeple's best field performance of the season with Mill Green crashing to 85 all out.
Steeple knew batting would not be easy as the wicket dried out, and this proved to be the case, as the hosts' top order crumbled with only Andy Wilson reaching double figures.
At 23 for 5 the game was seemingly slipping away from Steeple, but skipper Duncan Warner and Tim Tidey used all their experience to take the home side to 65 for 5 before the latter was dismissed.
Sean Tidey joined Warner (37 not out) and they made sure play ran smoothly, before three wickets fell in two overs to leave the scores level with just five balls remaining.
Sensing victory, Jack Tidey despatched the first for four and sealed a hard-fought victory.
