Morden lose despite Adams century

STEEPLE Morden slipped to a 32-run defeat against Bassingbourn on Saturday despite a brilliant century from Nick Adams.

Bassingbourn batted first and the runs came thick and fast for their top order who all reached double figures and Smith top-scored with 37 just ahead of Hughes who posted 34.

Martin Osborne (10-1-43-3) and John Moffatt (5-0-38-2) both did reasonably well with the ball while Adams and Ryan Headington both took fine boundary catches as Bassingbourn reached 212-8.

Morden didn’t get off to the best of starts in reply as they lost a wicket in the first over. Things then got worse for Morden when the score quickly became 32-3 and it looked like being a day to forget.

However, they were offered some reprieve when Duncan Warner joined Adams at the crease and the pair took the score along to 135 before Adams was caught on the boundary for 109 in the 25th over in a superb innings which included five 6s and 14 4s.

Warner (33) kept the runs flowing but when he was dismissed Morden could not maintain the required run-rate and were all out for 180. Robinson was the pick of the Bassingbourn bowlers with four wickets to his name.
