DENISE Moody won the mixed stableford on Saturday with an impressive 42 points which saw her handicap trimmed to 26.

Despite the heavy rain on Friday, the free draining course was in beautiful condition and Moody played some steady golf scoring on all 18 holes, with a back nine of 22 points, but she only scraped home by one point from the fast improving James Moule.

Eighteen handicapper Moule's round sprung to life with a gross birdie on the par five ninth for four points.

His form continued over the back nine for a one over par gross score that resulted in 25 points and 41 overall.

Another lady took third spot when Karen Pearson trimmed her handicap by two shots after 39 points. She too had a good back nine with 22 points.

The ladies at Royston Golf Club held their January luncheon last week, an event which was preceded by a 12 hole stableford competition.

Kathy Musgrave won the silver division with 24 points and was followed by Debbie Pitfield with 21points and Jenny Jarvis who had 19.

The countback rule was required for the bronze division with Gill Drewery winning from Josie Seward after both players scored 25 points.

Shirley Bradshaw took third spot with 21.

This week sees the annual fixture with Cambridge University Stymies taking place over the Heath course.

The hotly contested match is played over 36 holes.

The morning foursomes is followed by singles in the afternoon.
